Eldorado blog

Diane McGregor from Eldorado at Santa Fe thanked you for your post:
“As I lay in bed and watched the dark sky slowly brightened by the slow rising sun, my mind began to write my second blog......I'm going to feed and water the birds, I thought, and watch and count who comes....and find the appropriate words to describe the social mannerisms of my multi-feathered friends as they search and compete for a snack.
Well, that was the plan.....and, sure enough, I filled all the trays, broke the ice and filled the water bowls, and down they came........and the feasting began.
Then, the early morning trip to Whole Foods changed my thinking.......after saying 'hello' to the coyote strolling around my garage, we packed our empty bags and set off, hoping to beat the rush.
Taking my favorite route to Santa Fe down the Old Pecos Trail, we turned a corner just past the Desert Academy, and......saw a dog literally walking in circles in the middle of the road!!!! It look dazed, bewildered.

We stopped the car, and, waving passing cars to slow down, we managed to pick up the poor little fellow and put him in our car.....
There was a tag around its neck.....and, hey, a phone number!
I phoned.....no reply, so I left an emotional message: 'Hey, we've just found your dog....'
I couldn't see any nearby homes, so we decided to take the dog (now licking my wife's hand) with us to Santa Fe.
Then, my phone rang. It was the dog's owner!!!!

As we spoke, a young lady appeared.....it was the dog owner's daughter!!
We quickly learned the cocker spaniel's name.....Latte.......and he was so pleased to see his owner........
Because we were in the right place at the right time, Latte is, no doubt, now lying in front of a roaring fire, perhaps, like me, watching the birds through the window.....
Oh, birds? Nature Blog? Yeah.......8 different kinds came today, including 2 beautiful crows (they enjoyed the toast).....tomorrow I'll sit with a bird book and give each bird a name....and officially open a Bird Restaurant........😀

Eldorado at Santa Fe

ELDORADO BLOG

So..........the thought came to me around 3 this morning......as I'm handwriting a journal each and every day, I'm neglecting my blogging.........so, today, December 21st, I'm going to start blogging again......and share it with the Eldorado NEXTDOOR, the media system that is very local to where I now live.........ok, here goes ( I know, incidentally, that no one will read it except me, but that's ok.......it's just that I have more and more of the drive to write what's buzzing in my head).

So, here goes......today's the day!

I'm sitting in front of the big windows that overlook the back walled garden........it's where I sit every morning and every evening in particular, watching the sun rise and the sun set........always so colorful, so beautiful.

It's a surprise to me that the birds appear to enjoy the landscaping that we did when we moved here mid summer. It's also a suprise to me that there is such a variety of birds, big and small, that visit each and every day, enjoying the variety of snacks I put out for them. In particular, they enjoy the fresh water I put into the bird bowls at least three times a day. I can't imagine where they obtain their water other than in gardens.........it's now over 80 days since we had any moisture here in Eldorado......80 days!!

I can't tell you what birds are coming to the feeders. There's a big variety but my fading memory has discarded their names from my memory bank (to think, I used to know the names and the life styles of all the birds that came and had their breakfast, lunch and dinner when I lived in Colorado. Not any more). But, hey, who cares? It doesn't stop me watching and enjoying how they hop around, digging and scratching, and filling their tummies. I do miss the jays.......they were frequent visitors during the summer and autumn, pecking and eating at least 3 corncobs a day. Now there's just a couple of blue jays that come but are not interested in the fresh corn on the cob I hang from the tree. hey, hey. they'll be bacl when spring comes, yes?

OK, enough for Eldorado Blog One.........well, for this morning, anyway!
