Reaction to visiting Ghost Ranch

Yesterday I drove about 60 miles from   my home in Eldorado to Ghost Ranch, the home of the famous painter, Georgia O'Keefe. Jeannine is there, participating in a week-long weaving class.

After a beautiful drive through rugged countryside, I arrived in time to meet Jeannine's class acquaintances, admire everyone's weavinghave a light lunch sitting in the shade of a very old cottonwood tree, then go for a hike.

Well, the hike blew me away! The beautiful soft red earth, the aged, gnarled trees, endless mountains, incredible rocks, fast moving lizards, one slithery snake, et al, were just incredible! I just had to keep stopping to stare in amazement around me (um, didn't have a camera, of course...................!!)

Then, after an hour or so of walking,  we did a quick tour of the cabins, workshops, museums, library, gift shop.........what an incredible place!

And what an incredible place to run a week-long workshop for those who would like to spend time looking more closely at the Ghost Ranch world of nature.................red sandstone outcrops, old cottonwood trees, and that thought got my mind awhirling!

So, I'm going to find out what one needs to know when applying to teach a class at Ghost Ranch!!
I'll keep updating this blog as I discover more and more about this awesome place.

71 years ago...............

At today's Senior Scientist class, July 16th, I, again, showed my OXO tin pocket museum that contains the amber and the wishing rock that I found exactly 71 years ago, Monday 14th July, 1947.......on Larrigan Beach..........

Then, I was given this tin............by Bob and his wife........

I slowly opened the tin and saw a bundle of notes, a wishing rock, a crystal and a small torch.

I read the note that was glued to the inside of the tin lid.

And that brought tears to my eyes.

After a chorus of HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU,  a collection of cakes and a lit candle appeared..............................wow..............!!

Today's Senior Science class

Jeannine's birthday, July 1st

Yesterday, June 30th, we drove to Plaza Blanca to  see the beautul rocks and, thus, to begin to celebrate Jeannine's birthday.........

What a beautiful drive and what a beautiful location!

And, today, another wonderful, early morning walk, a super breakfast at a local restaurant.........and, this evening, FF's birthday dinner at home!!

Saturday July 14th, 2018, my birthday walk............

This is where I buried my pocket museum...

I was up at 6 and took a short walk (about a mile and a half), just as the sun was brightening up the beautiful Eldorado landscape.

And, after an early breakfast and a delicious cup of tea, we drove to Plaza Blanca, a beautiful hiking area about 80 miles away..........

........we talked and walked and absorbed the incredible sights. Then I buried a birthday pocket museum, which, perhaps, may be uncovered some day. The pocket museum contained a little note for the finder and a couple of photograhs.

After an hour or so, we drove to Espanola and had a super lunch at Freddy's!!

Yummy! Especially when it was washed down with icy Sprite!!

Then, after a quick visit to Santa Fe to buy a desert and a couple of bottles of wine and some beer for dinner, home to Bertie and Fifi, and a light birthday menu, this time washed down with a chilled beer and two glasses of super-duper wine!
