To the Editor:
Having recently become a naturalised (sic) American, I was interested in the reasons interviewees in your article gave for not becoming United States citizens.
I don’t feel any less British or particularly American. I still sound (and spell) like the BBC, my cultural attitudes and inheritances remain Anglo-Jewish, and I still prefer double-breasted, striped suits to single-breasted, shapeless gray flannel abominations.
But I am now a full participant in the American polity, with greater rights and greater duties. I thought that as I intended to live here forever, or until I die (whichever is shorter), it would be immoral not to become a citizen.
