Cicada embryos glued to a tree

After up to 17 years living undertground, the large embryos crawl to the surface to a place of safety, rest, then the adult emerges from the body shell.
Up to five weeks of urgent mating takes place, many eggs laid, and the adults die...................pupae emerge from the eggs and the cycle begins again.
